Kingsley School Bideford
Kingsley School Bideford
It’s good to be back at School
Kingsley is a single campus co-ed Boarding and Day school situated amidst 25 acres of playing fields, gardens and woods, high up in the maritime market town of Bideford, just a few miles from stunning surfing beaches in one direction and the wilds of Exmoor and Dartmoor national parks inland.
There are many reasons students are happy to be back at Kingsley this term.
One reason could be the location - Kingsley is set in beautiful North Devon, surrounded by stunning countryside. Pupils have plenty of fresh air and space to roam and explore at school.
Another reason is the genuine family atmosphere at school. As a relatively small school, Kingsley’s atmosphere is like that of a large family where everybody knows each other well. Ultimately, students rate the opportunity to find their place, the exceptional support they receive and the welcome, in the boarding houses, and on the main school campus, as the prime reasons they are happy to be back this term.
The staff have been celebrating their outgoing year 13’s exceptional A-Level and BTEC results.
The school’s philosophy encourages personal qualities such as courage, generosity, honesty, imagination, tolerance and kindness. In addition, students’ wider interests are developed alongside skills in sport, music, art, and drama. Kingsley also has a national reputation for its Learning Development Centre which provides support for students who may need additional teaching. Overall, a Kingsley education develops the individual character and talents of each and every student both inside and outside the classroom, whether during a pandemic or not!
Kingsley School leads the way when it comes to environmental studies and has just won the national prize award from ISA for Sustainability and Environmental Education. At the heart of education at Kingsley is the Earth Centre which focuses pupils on environmental sustainability and climate change. Pupils are immersed in the challenges of understanding climate change and how to manage land, plant and soil ecology; and grow crops based on ecological principles that also absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere building up reserves of carbon in the soil. Understand the role and ecological importance and complexity of oceans and freshwater supplies has become an important part of many of our pupil’s educational pathways.
Headteacher Mr Robert Pavis said: “As a parent, I know that choosing the right school can be daunting, but Kingsley is a place which really does recognise that each child has individual needs, with their own set of skills and talents that deserve to be developed. Smaller, more attentive classes with caring and supportive teachers and house parents in the boarding houses, gives the school a familial feel. I am delighted that we have undergone an extensive investment programme to upgrade our boarding houses, prep school classrooms and sporting provision. We have just launched our new surf academy. I am proud of each and every student, their progress, support of one another and their outstanding personal achievements. Coming back to school after time away is never easy, but hearing the laughter rippling through the corridors has been a joy. Right now I can hear ‘happy birthday’ being sung loudly in our outdoor prep school assembly. At Kingsley we do everything to keep the joy and love of learning at the heart of everyday school life.”
